Occasionally Braden wakes up before Olivia from their nap. When I'm being a "good" mom, Braden and I have special time together. He chooses to read books together, play games, puzzles, etc. Other days if I am still involved in whatever it was that I deemed important at the time he'll play quietly, read, watch a show, etc.
Today he wanted to do his "school" books. Braden has been very resistant to any "teaching," which is fine by me. I do enough of that at school and don't want to start those battles before I have to. I don't feel the need or desire to push something that he's not ready for and up until recently he hasn't been interested. It will all come in time... I can see that by fourth grade he'll definitely know his alphabet! :) Just kidding but it's just not something I worry about.
We sat down and had some really special time tracing letters, numbers, matching rhyming words, etc. It was worth every minute. I need to remember how great that time is for both of us and how much more important it is than folding laundry, organizing my desk and watching reality TV!!!! Hehe.
I'm so excited for him to start school and realize all that he can do. I wish for him nothing more than to somehow learn to love learning. I don't wish for him to be the most gifted, the easiest child or the most popular. I simply wish for him to continue to love to read and to learn how wonderful school and learning can be. My parents did wonders for me in this area - obviously that's why I chose to go into education - and I hope we can somehow help Braden find this love as well.
