What happened to the kitchen?

Last night I was talking to Kristin on the phone (go figure!) and Braden came into the living room to tell me that Olivia had dumped Magnus's water dish on the kitchen floor, was playing in the water and trying to drink it. Seriously - why when I am on the phone? It's inevitable. I went in and gave her a towel and got her started on cleaning it up.

Not more than 5 minutes later Steve got home, I was still on the phone, and he yelled, "Oh my gosh Sarah, what happened to the kitchen?" I quickly jumped up to see and abruptly hung up the phone because the pictures above came into my view. Actually they don't even do it justice. Olivia had gotten into the pantry, an hourly ordeal, and dumped an entire bag of sugar and box of corn starch onto the already wet floor. It was disastrous. I couldn't vacuum much up because of the wet and the corn starch stuck to the floor like wet flour. AHHHHHH.

The humorous part of the situation was Magnus who looked up at me with a completely white face. It's hard to tell from the picture and it was taken shortly after the fact but he had white whiskers and what looked like a white beard. He looked like an old man. So cute.

Many of you are probably wondering why we don't have a child lock on the pantry - we do! Olivia has taken it upon herself to figure out how to open them up. Actually I think I hear her in there now so I'm off before another disaster appears. Any ideas on how to keep her out would be more than welcome!!! :)

Sorry Sarah...I don't have any suggestions, but just wanted to let you know that I have been there before. I came out to the living room when Carson was younger and found baking soda and other baking items spread over our couch. Funny now, not so much then!!

Sarah,
Ohhhh...it really will be funny someday! Stephen knew how to unlock everything - he even unscrewed a lightbulb (thankfully it wasn't lit) from a table lamp one day and brought it to me while I was on the phone!! He once took off out the front door while I was nursing Lena so there I was running after him with an infant latched onto me!!!!! Now I think it's a sign of creativity :) I don't know if this would help but perhaps just put things in Olivia's reach that will be "ok" if she takes them out. That is what I used to do with the kids. Also, do you have a wet/dry shop vac? It makes clean-up like that much easier.

I chuckled at this post. Sorry...but it was really cute and funny. I hope you got it cleaned up easy enough. Did you have the little "dumper" help?
